A Community Legacy Over 75 Years & 3 Generations in the Making
Alfred "Top" Tourangeau and Margaret "Mom T" Tourangeau had a vision in 1950 that they could provide affordable home furnishings to the community through a weekly payment system. They spent the next 11 years building this dream... one customer at a time.
In 1961, after establishing a foundation with the community, Top decided it was time to become a shopping destination and became the first retailer to move off Main Street and onto the Berlin-Gorham Road. Top knew that by offering everything from appliances, home electronics, giftware, diamonds, furniture, and outdoor toys, Top Furniture & Appliance would be the one-stop shop destination for the community.
In 1990, we completed renovations to keep up with the changing needs of our customers. Once those were complete, Top Furniture & Appliance became one of the few stores to still offer home furnishings, appliances, and home electronics in one place.
In 2006, the newest chapter in our story started –– we built a new 42,000-square-foot store and a 9-level warehouse across the street from the current location. Now, 14 years later, that store is still our home, and our team continues to provide the top-notch service Alfred and Margaret strived to achieve over 75 years ago.
